Full Circle Friday Spotlight: Lori Menees

Why did you choose to come back to work at Coweta Public Schools?
At the time, I still lived in the community, and I loved the thought of working in the same system I grew up in. I had good memories of great teachers who taught me, and I wanted to be a part of that.

If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be?
When I went into education, I always assumed I would get my administrative certificate at some point. I would tell myself to go ahead and go for it.

Who left a legacy for you during your time as a student at CPS?
I had so many awesome teachers that it's hard to narrow it down. One who was especially meaningful to me was Miss Mary Beth Rutherford. I was a timid kid, but she was so gentle and kind that I always felt loved in her class. I hope all of my students—even the ornery ones—know that I care about them and want the best for them.

Inclement Weather & School Attendance Information

Dear Parents and Guardians,

When winter weather is in the forecast, we know families often have questions about school attendance, transportation, and how decisions are made. Below is helpful information addressing our most common questions.

How does CPS decide whether to close school or transition to virtual learning?
Several factors are considered when determining if it is safe to hold classes:

Road and sidewalk conditions
Temperature and wind chill
Bus route accessibility
Potential for power outages

When will families be notified of a closure or a shift to virtual learning?
CPS will notify families as soon as it becomes clear that all campuses cannot safely open.
Student Devices were sent home today to ensure we are prepared for what ever weather situation we might be facing over the next week.

If possible, the decision will be made the night before and communicated immediately.
If a nighttime decision isn’t possible, announcements will be made no later than 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

What about school transportation?
If school is closed or moves to virtual learning, buses will not run.
If school remains open, tardies will be excused for bus riders on inclement weather days if their bus is delayed.

Once the school day begins, CPS does not dismiss early. Bus routes will run their regular afternoon schedules.

How will CPS communicate inclement weather information?
Official updates will be shared through:

The Coweta Public Schools App
CPS official social media pages
Local TV channels: 2, 6, and 8

Please be aware that some school-closing notifications online may be AI-generated or posted by unofficial sources. Always rely on information shared directly by Coweta Public Schools.

Family Decision-Making
Parents and guardians should always use their best judgment when determining whether it is safe for their student to attend during inclement weather. We encourage all families to have a backup plan in place for unexpected closures.

Student Safety Reminder
All CPS campuses follow established safety procedures for early checkouts. Students will only be released to a parent or guardian listed in Powerschool as part of the student’s official contact information.

🌟 Leaving a Legacy: Miss Dee 🌟

"At NW, we are blessed with an amazing kitchen staff—and Miss Dee is truly one of a kind. She pours her heart into caring for every student who walks through her cafeteria line.
Miss Dee loves our students as if they were her own. She takes the time to get to know them personally—learning their names, their stories, and even their likes and dislikes. That kind of connection matters. ❤️

We know that learning can’t happen on an empty stomach, and Miss Dee makes sure our kids are fed well, supported, and ready to learn each day."

Full Circle Friday Spotlight: Mrs. Swarer

Why did you choose to come back to work at Coweta Public Schools?
I chose to come back to work at Coweta because it was a huge part of my life—from my first day of kindergarten to the moment I walked across the stage at graduation. Throughout that time, I had teachers who believed in me, encouraged me, and helped me become who I am today. I wanted to give back to the school that meant so much to me. Coweta is home.

If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be?
Be more confident in your abilities and know what is truly important.

Who left a legacy for you during your time as a student at CPS?
Mrs. Hladik was instrumental in giving me confidence during my high school years. Mrs. Manry was always so encouraging—and still is.

This morning, Bus #8 was involved in a minor accident after student drop‑off at Coweta High School.

We want to assure you that NO students or staff were injured.

Students from Sloat Junior High and Mission Intermediate Grade Center were on board at the time, and their parents have been notified. The Coweta Police Department was contacted immediately and is currently investigating the incident.

The safety of our students is always our highest priority. We are grateful for the quick response of our staff and first responders, and we will continue to follow all safety procedures to ensure that students are transported safely to and from school each day.
