🌟 Leaving a Legacy: Mrs. Spurgeon 🌟

"Mrs. Spurgeon is leaving a legacy that goes far beyond teaching students to read! Through her dedication, compassion, and unwavering support, she’s helped shape not only strong learners, but confident and cared‑for individuals.

The lessons she teaches—and the kindness and empathy she models—will stay with her students long after they leave her classroom. 💛📚

Just as importantly, she is an incredible team player—always willing to collaborate, support her colleagues, and do what’s best for our school community. Her positive influence will be felt for years to come!"

Thank you, Mrs. Spurgeon, for the impact you make every single day. 🌼✨

🌟 Full Circle Friday Spotlight 🌟

Why did you choose to come back to work at Coweta Public Schools?
"My family has lived in Coweta for many generations. My grandpa even attended a schoolhouse here. Nearly all of my family members have their photos hanging on the walls of our High School cafeteria. Coweta is my home, and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. Our teachers and staff feel like family—it’s such a special, fun, and supportive place to work."

If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be?

"Slow down. Practice and protect your inner peace."

Who left a legacy for you during your time as a CPS student?

"So many teachers helped shape who I am today.
Mr. Kern made everybody feel like somebody—he was always singing, telling jokes, and full of joy.
Mr. Clark, Mrs. Self, Mr. Wilson, Coach Gee—I loved practicing archery and exploring the outdoor classroom.
Mrs. Whiteley, Mrs. Davis, Mr. Burress, and Mrs. Waller also created a safe, loving environment where I always felt cared for. I’m truly grateful for each of them and the legacy they left in my life."

🌟 Leaving a Legacy: Honoring Ms. Cooper 🌟
"Every classroom is shaped by the person who leads it—and in Ms. Cooper’s room, students are guided by an experienced, caring teacher whose dedication truly sets her apart.

With years of expertise, she brings clarity to even the toughest concepts, helping students realize that math isn’t something to fear—it’s something they can understand and even enjoy.

What makes Ms. Cooper extraordinary is the way she believes in her students. She sees their potential long before they see it themselves, offering patience, encouragement, and unwavering support. From after‑school tutoring to celebrating small victories, she always goes the extra mile.

Her classroom is more than a place to learn math and science—it’s a place where students feel valued, capable, and confident. Through her compassion, hard work, and belief in the power of education, Ms. Cooper inspires her students not only to succeed in school, but to believe they can accomplish anything in life. 💛📚

Thank you, Ms. Cooper, for the legacy you continue to build."

Full Circle Friday Spotlight: Louann Roberson

Why did you choose to come back to work at Coweta Public Schools?
Coweta is my home. My grandparents (on both sides), my parents, myself, and both of my daughters all attended Coweta for the full 12 years. I think CPS is the BEST! I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else!

If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be?
I would tell myself to explore my college options more while I was there. Don’t be set on what you think you want to be when you grow up. Listen to others who can see potential in you that you may not see in yourself. Listen to your family and close friends who know you and believe in you.
Also, explore the courses they encourage you to take—you may discover the path you were truly meant for. It might take a little longer to finish your degree, but it could lead you to the field you were made for. If I would have listened to my family and friends, I would have gone into fashion classes in college and would have become an FCS teacher from the very beginning.
I absolutely love what I am doing now. It took me longer to get here and to find out what I was meant to do, but in the end, I did find my purpose.

Who left a legacy for you during your time as a student at CPS?
Wow—I have so many teachers and principals who unknowingly left legacies for me. During my elementary years, Mrs. Billie Cole, Mrs. Sue Jones, Miss Mary Beth Rutherford, Mrs. Barbara Basey, Mr. Hickey, and Mr. Pletcher were all God‑sent angels who helped me survive those early years.
In middle school and high school, Mrs. Carolyn Rowe, Mrs. Dian Manry, and Mrs. Seagraves (Caskey) shaped me and guided me toward the realization that teaching was what I was called to do.
I wish I could have worked alongside them before they retired. I also wish I had told them how much they meant to me and how positively they influenced my life. They were truly the best of the best—teachers and principals who definitely Left a Legacy!

Back to School, Tigers (Yes… Really This Time.)

Coweta Public Schools will be open for in-person learning on Friday, January 30th — and yes, this one is for real.

We want to sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience caused by yesterday’s change in status. We know that shifts like that affect families, schedules, and plans, and we truly appreciate your patience as we worked through rapidly changing weather and safety conditions.

Oklahoma weather keeps us on our toes, but our priority is always making the best decision we can with the information available at the time — and keeping our students and staff safe.

The good news: our buildings are warm, buses are ready, and classrooms are set. We’re excited to welcome our Tigers back to campus and get back to learning together.

See you Friday. For real. 🐯

IMPORTANT: Switch to Distance Learning for Thu 1/29

I regret to inform you that we have changed our decision and will move to virtual learning tomorrow Jan 29th instead of meeting in person.

This decision was made after careful consideration of current safety concerns. Black ice is already forming in our parking lots and in several neighborhoods, and potential staffing challenges. These factors create safety issues, including insufficient supervision in some schools.

I understand this change may cause a significant burden for some of you, and I am truly sorry for the inconvenience. Our priority is the safety of our students and staff. We are hopeful that another day of above-freezing temperatures will improve conditions so everyone can safely travel to and around our sites.

INCLEMENT WEATHER UPDATE

While weather and road conditions are beginning to improve, continued frigid temperatures are still creating conditions that warrant additional caution. As a result, Coweta Public Schools will shift to distance learning on Wednesday, January 28.

Wednesday will count as an instructional day. Students are encouraged to check in with their teacher when possible and complete any assigned work throughout the day.

Please continue to monitor the district website at https://www.cowetaps.org and our official social media channels for updated information regarding the rest of the week.
